With this MSc programme, we combine the research expertise of both VUB and Ghent University, allowing you to tailor your study programme to your interests. Select which one of our three minors you wish to follow: Research, Economy and Business, or Education. Entry Requirements

The Master of Science in Physics and Astronomy is open to holders of a Flemish bachelor's degree in physics or physics and astronomy. If you have a non-Flemish degree or other bachelor in science, applied science or life sciences, we will evaluate your admission based on academic records and skills. Admission is on a case-by-case basis and based upon acceptance of a complete application (proof of meeting the academic and language requirements, satisfactory background...). Proof of English proficiency is compulsory.


The tuition fee for 2023-2024 will be:
EU/EEA students: 1090 €/year
Non EU/EEA students 3620 €/year

The Scholarship covers:
Tuition fee/tuition waiver: Tuition fee is limited to amount paid by Flemish scholarship student
Duration: Duration of the Master program (if 2-year Master: second year conditional)
Health insurance is not included
Flight cost is not included
Language preparation courses are not included


Only outstanding students can apply (equivalent of magna cum laude, first class honours, Grade A).

Application Procedure

Please note that you need to have applied for a place at the VUB and have received an offical letter of acceptance, issued by the VUB Education and Student Administration Office, before you can apply for the scholarship. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel will nominate maximum 20 students for selection to the Flemish Ministry of Education.
