This Certificate programme has been introduced in response to the growing global interest in children’s physical education, physical activity, sport and wellbeing.
The part-time nature of the programme, combined with some online learning, will enable students to complete the qualification while maintaining their current role.
Courses involve a detailed investigation of the developmental, curriculum, pedagogy, professional learning and policy knowledge needed to support learning in different contexts across the 3-14 age range.
With physical activity being a shared endeavour, students will critically investigate the collaboration and partnership issues raised in school and local community settings.
The programme consists of three compulsory courses, each of which will involve attendance at two weekend sessions and will be supported by online sessions and distance learning resources.
These courses are:
3-14 Physical Education: Setting the Context
Early Years Physical Education (ages 3-8)
Upper Primary and Early Secondary Physical Education (ages 9-14)
With the increased interest in children and young people’s physical education, physical activity and sport, this qualification will allow you to pursue increased opportunities across the education and physical activity professions.
In addition, we will supply you with skills in areas such as communication and project management, which can be applied to roles in any field. The programme will also prepare students for further postgraduate study on education, physical activity and sport programmes.
It is not an initial teacher education programme and does not include qualified teacher status.
