PGCE Secondary Drama with QTS

Course Description

The Faculty of Education has a longstanding national reputation for providing high-calibre initial teacher training with over 20 Secondary specialisms available. We have a well established partnership with over 800 secondary schools and colleges across the North West region and beyond.

PGCE Drama aims to develop an understanding of the place of drama in secondary education and to provide a firm foundation from which to teach this exciting subject. Philosophically, the course is based upon an inclusive view of the drama curriculum which reflects the wide range of contexts which the subject operates within schools and colleges.

An innovative and highly successful feature of our course is the drama 'carousel' where groups visit different schools to observe several specially selected, highly skilled and experienced practitioners at work.

A minimum of 120 days school-based practice training is combined with university-based training and periods of independent study. Trainees are supported throughout by university and placement mentors.

Professional skills tests in Numeracy and Literacy:
All PGCE applicants will need to pass pre-entry Professional Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy. The Faculty of Education offer support sessions to help applicants prepare for tests, but tests must be booked externally, further details at https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/passing-the-skills-tests
