The Faculty of Education has a longstanding national reputation for providing high-calibre initial teacher training with over 20 Secondary specialisms available. We have a well established partnership with over 800 secondary schools and colleges across the North West region and beyond.
The main focus of this PGCE is business studies, but there will also be opportunities to teach other business related subjects, such as economics. As well as preparing trainees for teaching in secondary schools, the course also provides the opportunity to experience teaching in Post 16 environments, either in a sixth form or further education establishment. Much of the knowledge, understanding and skills you will gain are transferable to teaching ICT as a second subject at Key Stage 3.
An emphasis is placed on the use of a virtual learning environment (VLE) to access lecture materials and extension work as well as an online community.
A minimum of 120 days school-based practice training is combined with university-based training and periods of independent study. Trainees are supported throughout by university and placement mentors.
Professional skills tests in Numeracy and Literacy: All PGCE applicants will need to pass pre-entry Professional Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy. The Faculty of Education offer support sessions to help applicants prepare for tests, but tests must be booked externally, further details at https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/passing-the-skills-tests
