About the course
How can science provide a route to social mobility? How can we connect science with students’ lives and experiences? Can science be for everyone?
Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to teach the secondary school biology curriculum.
You will learn how to teach all three sciences to GCSE level and your specialism, Biology, Chemistry or Physics, up to AS/A level.
You’ll explore various teaching methods in our laboratories, which mirror school science classrooms. You’ll consider how to plan lessons and manage activities. You'll learn how to reflect on your developing practice and how research can improve this.
Entry Requirements
You will normally have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the national curriculum for biology. For exceptional candidates, particularly those with substantial relevant work experience in schools or relevant occupations.
