PGCE Primary Education

Course Description

This excellent course is for graduates who wish to train as primary school teachers - we are one of a small number of UK higher education institutions to be awarded Category A status by Ofsted for this programme

It is a one-year course that trains you to teach children from 5-11 years - if successful, you will be recommended to the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), as well as gaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which is worth 60 Masters-level credits

You focus on the teaching of the National Curriculum for primary schools and specialise in teaching Key Stages 1 and 2
It is practically based, with a strong theoretical back up - it will also make you fully aware of recent educational developments such the National Primary Strategy and Every Child Matters

Learning is through experience, exploration and research, and is technology supported - you will also be allocated a personal tutor for the duration of the course

All modules will provide examples of good teaching practice, and you will be expected to actively participate in your own learning and development

You will undertake three placements, in two different schools, supported by a school-based tutor and a University tutor
