Student Profile(s)

Kelly Davies

“It was a necessity for me to continue to work while studying for my degree. By studying online at Derby, it allowed me to achieve a degree which otherwise would not have been possible.

I met and became friends with people from all over the world. Together we supported each other throughout our degrees. All the tutors and academic staff were brilliant and responded promptly to any learning enquiries.

I have noticed an improvement in my self-esteem and self-belief. Every time I managed to exceed the grade I thought was possible for me, I realised that I can achieve and the only person who had stopped me from doing so in the past was me. Studying alongside working was difficult to manage at times but has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

Joy Rickard

“There was no way I would have been able to give up my current commitments and attend university full time. I realised that online study was the only option that would provide the flexibility that I needed.

I really enjoyed studying online and I think the resources provided are excellent. I can access learning material as and when it’s convenient for me and the forum is used effectively as an interactive space in which discussions and ideas can develop. I’ve also been impressed with the scope of the digital library, both for books and journals, and this is something that I think makes a big difference to the success of the course.

Online study through the University of Derby Online Learning has provided me with a good route to achieving my goals and I also think that it’s good value for money – the perfect combination.”

Mo Aledeh

'I first came across the university when I was looking for something new, relevant to my work and challenging and UDOL presented all that. I ended up registering for three free MOOC’s [free Massive Open Online Courses].

The teaching and support from the lecturers has been wonderful. They are always there to support students. Discovering UDOL was the best solution to my thirst for studying and continuing development because it offers me the freedom, as well as enabling me to combine work, study, and my private life.'

 Lisa Libreri

“I was working 12-hour shifts in a hospital and have a very busy life so flexibility is important. The learning material is available online all the time, enabling me to study in my free time.

Whenever I had a problem, either academically or just a query, I always found very helpful staff and professionals who were ready to guide me through it. But, most of all, they made sure the issue was solved. I think that the individual attention given to students makes the teaching experience more personalised and made me feel appreciated.

Once I complete my studies, I will have the knowledge and qualifications required for furthering my career. Working within the health sector, especially nursing, one should never stop learning as this profession is always evolving.”

Rachel Bage

“I was looking online for a flexible MSc Integrative Health and Social Care degree and Derby really appealed to me. The limited number of mandatory modules and significant number of optional modules was a highlight.

I enjoyed studying in such a multicultural environment with students from across the globe. I have had some fantastic lecturers who have offered a really good experience. I like that I could study at my own pace, but also know that the lecturer is there when I need them.

I feel so much more confident in managing a workload and working to a deadline now. I feel my academic skills have grown substantially and I believe this course has sup
