Welcome to the PG Cert Independent/Supplementary Prescriber Preparation programme at the University of Lincoln. This part-time course is designed for NMC and HCPC registrants who want to gain an accredited Independent/Supplementary Prescribing qualification. Over 31 weeks, you will explore theoretical perspectives on evidence-based therapeutics and the consultation process, as well as legal, ethical, and professional issues related to prescribing. The programme includes 12 days of supervised clinical experience to apply your knowledge in practice. Accredited by the NMC and subject to HCPC approval, this programme ensures you develop the competencies required to prescribe safely and effectively. About the course

This course is designed to provide a sound underpinning knowledge base in relation to pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics, building on students pre-existing knowledge and skills to develop their consultation ability and style.

There is a focus on applied therapeutic interventions which are essential for safe, competent prescribing. Additionally, through this course, students will develop an understanding of legal, ethical, and professional perspectives to inform their future prescribing practice.

The course will also seek to develop students ability to evaluate evidence-based practice and shared decision make to ensure safe, meaningful, and concordant relationships with patients and carers.

Entry Requirements

Nurses: a minimum of one year post registration clinical experience.
AHPs: normally three years relevant post-qualification experience in the clinical area in which you will be prescribing.
