If you're a qualified healthcare professional who wants to specialise in teaching, this is the course for you. You'll become a qualified teacher who is able to teach both in healthcare settings and in higher education. This course is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Higher Education Academy.

Do you want to influence the next generation of healthcare practitioners?

Are you an experienced nurse, midwife or allied health professional with a passion for communication? If you love what you do and want to pass on your knowledge, this course is for you.

We've developed this programme for experienced clinicians from all disciplines who are already in, or want to move into, a teaching role. This programme is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and allows registered nurses and midwives to become qualified teachers with the NMC.

With this qualification you'll be able to pursue an educator role within your practice. You'll also be able to teach in higher education. You may be able to combine roles and continue as a practitioner as well as being a lecturer or trainer.

What will this course cover?

You'll develop teaching skills, including how to teach individuals with different needs and ways of learning. You'll also learn how to plan and carry out student assessments. Additionally, you'll learn about curriculum and how to plan, deliver and evaluate educational programmes

Teaching practice

You'll complete 12 weeks (360 hours) teaching practice supervised by a qualified teacher. During this, we'll give you support and constructive feedback and you'll reflect on your own teaching skills.

What are my career prospects?

You'll achieve the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Education. If you are a registered nurse or midwife, you will be able to record the teacher qualification with the NMC. You will have gained the status of a qualified teacher and you will meet the standards for Fellowship of the HEA.

How will you help me prepare for my future career?

When you finish this course, you'll have proven skills in teaching within your professional practice. You'll also be qualified to teach in Higher Education. You will be able to advance in your career within your existing workplace or branch out into an academic institution.

You will also be able to progress onto our MA in Education, which further expands your future career options. For those who want to continue in research into Education and become published academics, this is an excellent starting point.
