This programme will offer the busy General Dental Practitioner the opportunity to acquire intensive knowledge of the basic principles of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, the ability to assess the periodontal needs of a patient, the skills for non-surgical therapy, the understanding of surgical management of advanced periodontal cases and the fundamentals of diagnosis and treatment planning in implant dentistry.

About this degree

The programme offers you the ability to assess and manage the periodontal needs of a patient and to become competent in the presentation, diagnosis and management of all known diseases and disorders of the periodontium.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

Students will undertake 3 compulsory modules in the first year totalling 60 credits, 4 compulsory modules in the second year totalling 60 credits and in the third year a compulsory dissertation of 60 credits.

  • MSc in Periodontology dissertation


All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of 10-000 - 12,000 words (60 credits) with a 30 minute viva exam.

Teaching and learning

Teaching is delivered and assessed in a variety of ways including: lectures, seminars, problem based learning, on line tutorials and practical work, group discussion, case presentations, videos and discussion forums and workbased learning.


Students will complete patient treatment in their own clinics and through discussion with peers, staff and others will synthesise knowledge and practice skills, improving clinical practice and effectiveness.

Additional costs

Students will be expected to meet the costs of travel, accomodation and meals to attend residental teaching sessions and exams in London.

Who can apply?

All applicants must hold an approved dental degree qualification and have a minimum of three years clinical experience post qualification and currently be working as a dentist.

English Language Level for this programme is : Good (IELTS Academic Version grade 7.0) withn 6.5 in all subtests.
