“I was Interested in learning and becoming the first forensic dentist in Sri Lanka and the University Dental Hospital is the only place in the UK that offers an MSc in Forensic Dentistry. The placement was secured for me through the Commonwealth University Association as I was offered a Commonwealth scholarship. I like the academic freedom, encouraging and supportive supervisors at the university, the co-operative and helpful staff, and the fine information technology facilities and good library. I am hoping to set up a Forensic Dental Unit in the Government Analysis Department and feel that the university has given me the opportunity to reach my goal.”
I started my research studies in 2004, having attained my first degree in molecular biology at the University of Dundee. I was attracted to Cardiff because of its high research profile and the working environment offered to pursue my PhD study. The School provides extensive research facilities, with ultra modern equipment, and I have been able to learn and develop a wide range of contemporary techniques. There are a large number of students undertaking research degrees at the School of Dentistry, which ensures a supportive, interactive environment in which to discuss my work and develop ideas and understanding.
