The Master Operations Research is a one-year master programme that leads to the title Master of Science (MSc). Operations Research (OR) is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. Operations Research emerged as a serious branch of mathematics during WW II, when its techniques proved to be effective at missions such as locating enemy submarines. Today, OR also has applications in a wide variety of sectors in the economy, such as transportation, telecommunication, retailing, health care, airline industries, and more. Its prevalence reflects the growing complexity of managing large organizations that require the effective use of money, materials, equipment, and people.
The Master programme Operations Research covers a wide range of research topics, including the following ones: (1) network formation, network maintenance and cost sharing (2) dynamic and evolutionary games (3) production planning (4) scheduling (5) biomedical signal processing for real-time sensing of cardiac signals (6) modeling and identification of gene regulatory networks (7) complex pattern formation in electrophysiological wave propagation on cardiac walls (8) analysis of complex patterns using fractal wavelet analysis
The members of the teaching staff are actively involved in one or more of the eight research topics. As a result, the educational contents of the courses relate directly to the research performed.
