Oil and Gas Law LLM with Dissertation (Online)

Course content

Oil and Gas Law with Dissertation offers you the opportunity to study online at a University in the heart of a major global oil and gas hub in Aberdeen. The industry has influenced the breadth and depth of programmes on offer since the 1970s and the start of the North Sea oil boom. The industry provide considerable research opportunities and networks to exist and the city hosts regulators at government level. You gain from this combined knowledge in the design of this programme.

Oil and gas law gives you a wide range of knowledge to manage the affairs of international oil and gas companies within the full spectrum of law or work at the regulation side of oil and gas law to apply requirements and protect the environment. This is a specialist area of environmental law in which you study the hydrocarbon industry in terms of corporate liability and responsibility, downstream energy law, investment and arbitration law which is relevant when working with other companies on high risk exploration areas. This is an internationally relevant programme due to the nature and operations of the oil and gas industry.

Courses offered cover petroleum, regulation, decommissioning, co-operative contracts, risk allocation in contracts, governance and disputes. The School of Law is recognised in this area internationally and research includes the Centre for Energy Law, and the Energy and Environmental Law Group. Careers can be within the oil and gas industry, regulation at UK government level or connected areas such as renewables and environmentally regulated industries related to oil and gas such as fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Previous graduates have gone into the academic world, international law firms, government departments, politics, finance and banking too.
