If you are considering a career or enterprise in oil and gas management or its associated supply chain this degree draws from the strengths of both academics at University of Aberdeen and industry professionals in the city who have helped to shape the programmes and modules from their learning and experiences. The university offers knowledge spanning fifty years in oil and gas production and commercialisation. 1160.jpg For me, MScHE and living in Aberdeen were transformational experiences that completely changed my life for the better. It first allows me to work in Scotland at the only independent investment bank specialising in the entire spectrum of the energy industry. Then, I have acted as business consultant creating more than US$ 10 million of new opportunities. This has been done for American and British service companies expanding to Latin America - Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela.

Before entering MScHE, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur with international relationships. In fact, I founded a small company that had delivered financial advice whilst investing the funds in real estate. Then, I wanted to be in the Oil & Gas industry but to get in this business was so difficult without an academic credential or experience. Furthermore, I was able to work just with Latin American companies. I had heard the MScHE international reputation enabled one to work anywhere they want to.

Apart from my company, I was working at Invertec, a Chilean management consultancy that offered me the possibility to attend projects not only in Venezuela, but also in Chile. After being selected to enjoy a scholarship, I felt that it was the time to make the transition to the O&G industry. I thought that by attending Aberdeen, I would gain a broader perspective on the opportunities available, and the skills I needed to seize them. And nowadays I can confirm I was right.

This masters course appealed to me because its focus was on upstream general management, and not a more narrow area such as marketing or finance. While I knew that I would learn about the technical side of exploration and production, I was astonished at the profound impact the course had on me: it permanently changed the way I viewed the petroleum world, and gave me the ability to judge situations and people more accurately and objectively.

MScHE is more than attending class one year. If one has ambitions to make a mark in the O&G business world this post-graduate course will be a deeply fulfilling option.

Because the University of Aberdeen has such an international and diverse student body, one learns to work in a variety of different contexts and environments. I am certain that I would not have been able to succeed in linking Anglo and Latin American companies without this experience.
