Occupational Therapy (Post-Registration) - MSc

Course Description

About the course

We are very fortunate to be able to provide this high quality programme as Brunel University London has one of the largest and most highly qualified occupational therapy staff groups in the world; the expertise is there to teach and supervise at Master’s and Doctoral levels.

Every module assignment can be focused on a topic you or your manager wants to investigate. The assignments are practically useful – write an evidence-based protocol or care pathway for your clients, plan how to improve the effectiveness of your service, evaluate and debate research in order to decide if the evidence is worth incorporating into practice, reflect on how central occupational engagement is for enhancing the health of your clients, or take a topic of interest to you.

The course does not further clinical skills, nor does it lead to registration from the UK professional governing bodies, but rather focuses on developing the occupational therapist’s ability to evaluate and enhance professional practice. Up to 60 credits of academic taught module exemptions can be offered for students holding a postgraduate certificate in Occupational Therapy, relevant postgraduate modules from other universities, or substantial relevant post professional periods of study – for example, AMPS or Sensory Integration.

1943.jpg The Occupational therapy programme at Brunel provides a great mix of hands on seminars and practice placements along with lectures by experts in the profession to provide a strong foundation.

In our seminars, we have danced together, baked together, painted together, all the while learning how to lead groups ourselves and modify activities to suit different clients’ needs. I have benefited from this greatly as someone who likes to get involved and ‘do’ things as well as learn about them.

The amount of group work involved has been invaluable, both in learning from each other, but also in discovering what makes a group work well together.

The lecturers have always been very approachable and encourage discussion and ideas in seminars that have enabled me to develop as a self directed learner.

Studying this course at Brunel has enabled me to not only have a good grounding as a future OT but also in many other areas of my life but most of all it has been a lot of fun, hard work too but fun.

Brunel University is one of the leading Universities in the UK and it has an international recognition based on the academic standard, good amenities and student satisfaction. Furthermore, their extensive course curriculum and large numbers of qualified faculty staff are another reason I chose Brunel.

Brunel University is a multicultural university with students from all parts of the world, making the university the ideal place for me to study. I strongly believe that Brunel University has the necessary facilities and qualified teaching staff that will help students prepare for a better career in the future. They also have good support for international students. Brunel has a multicultural environment as well as very good educational resources including the library, laboratory and good practical learning styles.

I will return to Bangladesh better qualified and ready to take a leading role in an area of medicine and therapy, which is under-served, especially in rural areas.
