Course content

Accredited by IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health), upon successful completion of your studies you are entitled to Graduate Member status of the Institution. This is the leading global professional body in occupational safety and health.

Workplace safety and worker health is increasingly significant in tackling wider societal issues around morbidity, early mortality and the influences of lifestyle on individuals and communities.

This programme is a comprehensive study into the current and emerging legal and compliance issues, and the scientific, health and psychosocial factors influencing 21st century Health and Safety. It introduces the student to the multitude of factors that are influential in workplace safety and health.

The course has extensive practical emphasis, with regular site visits to a variety of industrial and commercial settings. The knowledge acquired is applied to risk assessment, management and compliance requirements, to maintaining workplace safety, and to building infrastructure and compliance systems.

About the Course

This course has been designed to benefit those who currently work in, or aspire to work in, a variety of industries which are subject to increasing legislation around the areas of health, safety and the environment. Industries include environmental management, occupational safety and hygiene, food safety, regulatory enforcement and compliance, litigation and independent consultancy services.

Assessment details

Assignments include critical reviews of practice and regulation, presentations, practical experiments and data analysis reports, case studies and an independent dissertation.
