The MSc in Nutrition and Exercise Sciences led by Dr Jonathan Sinclair, represents an intellectually stimulating and vocationally important course that is thoroughly reinforced by evidence-based practice, focusing on the study of applied nutrition in sport and exercise. Throughout the course you will be taught contemporary nutrition and exercise sciences concepts, whilst developing the fundamental practitioner skills required for employment in applied nutrition practice and research.


The Division of Sport Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, is home to some of the world’s leading researchers in the field of exercise and nutritional sciences, making this course truly unique.

It consists of a compulsory element outlining research methods, ethics and practices, advanced methodologies and a research project. This is supplemented by a choice of three optional study modules. A variety of assessment methods are used including coursework, case studies, presentations, practical tests and reflective portfolios.

The School of Sport and Health Sciences has strong links with a large number of sports organisations, including professional sports teams, public and private sector sports providers and grassroots sports clubs. We regularly invite guest speakers from industry to speak to students within modules across a range of our courses.

This represents a valuable opportunity for students to meet potential employers and learn about life in the sports industry. For example, we have had guest lectures given by representatives of Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club, Bolton Wanderers Football Club, Blackburn Rovers Football Club, Lancashire Football Association, The Rugby Football League and Preston City Council.
