Nursing Leadership - MSc


Course Description

Would you like the opportunity to further explore nursing practice and healthcare, whilst developing skills and knowledge in research methods and service improvement?

The MSc Nursing Leadership course will allow you to examine contemporary nursing issues from a leadership perspective. Available to nurses who hold a registration in the UK or another country, this course offers an exciting mix of theory and practical application through the use of enquiry-based learning and workshops where a range of table top exercises and simulation will be utilised to develop your practical skills and knowledge.

Two course options are available: an intensive 12-month programme beginning in September or a 20-month course that commences in January with a break between June and August to provide the opportunity for you to undertake a placement or study abroad should you wish.

Throughout the duration of your course you will have access to our leading facilities and dedicated Clinical Skills Centre.

The content and teaching methods utilised on this course have been specifically designed to meet the requirements of international students and we have a vast network of support available should English not be your first language.

Teaching And Assessment

This course will allow you to develop a range of specialist skills such as research and analysis, practice development and clinical judgement, in addition to advanced analytical skills to allow you to evaluate current care and services or propose alternative options.

You will study a broad range of subjects including leadership in transformational services, theories and health related evidence, nursing practice and knowledge, research skills and systematic appraisal of published nursing research.

Learning and teaching strategies such as lectures, seminars, experiential learning and problem solving exercises will be utilised throughout your studies, all of which will be assessed via a mix of diagnostic evaluations, case studies, assignments and presentations.

You will also complete a final dissertation under the close guidance of our academic team.

Learning Environment

This course is based at our Coach Lane campus, which houses our Clinical Skills Centre – a purpose-built facility that will allow you to develop practical skills and gain valuable experience of real hospital situations through a simulated environment.

Our facilities are some of the most advanced in the country and allow us to ensure your learning evolves in-line with the latest developments in the industry.

Technology is embedded throughout all aspects of your degree and you will receive ongoing support through our innovative e-learning platform, Blackboard, where you can access module handbooks, assessment information, lecture presentation slides and reading lists. Key lectures will also be recorded to allow you to listen again.

If English is not your first language you will also have access to the English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) programmes to help you develop your English language, academic writing and study skills.

Being part of the MSc Nursing Leadership course will mean you are learning from a team of research-active professionals who are passionate about nursing and their individual areas of specialism.

All of this course’s modules will draw on staff specialisms and expertise, and you will be introduced to research and leadership methodologies to further enhance your knowledge.

Entry Requirements

Honours degree for example, BSc (Hons), normally at class 2:2 in a relevant subject or equivalent. Registration as a nurse (or a license to practice as a nurse) with a nursing regulator or appropriate licensing board / health department.
