About the course
This established course, which has been running for ten years, examines the central issues facing developing countries in today’s globalised world, giving you the skills for a job in development and the wider sectors.
Our aim is to make you an informed and critical development practitioner. You will be equipped with all the practical skills that are demanded by development agencies. You will also gain insight across the wider picture, understanding how developing countries can progress and how the poor can be mobilised to escape from the poverty trap.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 2.2 Honours in a Relevant Subject.
We would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to engaging with the developing country contexts, issues and concerns. Experience in NGO's within the UK or overseas at time of application is welcomed.
Overall IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).

Scholarships
You should previously have been awarded an undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree, professional doctorate or a postgraduate research degree from UEL or one of its predecessor institutions, such as the Polytechnic of East London.
You cannot apply for the alumni discount if your course involves distance learning or if you are studying towards a master’s and diploma in Architecture (RIBA Part 2), a PGCE, a post-compulsory education and training (PCET) course or any short course or courses worth less than 120 credits.

Eligibility
If you’re a member of UEL’s Alumni Association, you are automatically eligible for 15 per cent off your postgraduate fees*. The offer applies to all UEL alumni, however long ago they graduated.
Application Procedure
Please include on your application form that you previously studied at UEL, and include your old student ID number. The 15 per cent discount will be deducted from your tuition fees after any other scholarships, and before any early payment discount is applied. It can also be used alongside other scholarships and funding.
An international scholarship at UEL covers part of the cost of course fees. Scholarships are highly sought after and the process of applying for scholarships is often competitive and carries deadline dates. The amount awarded is assessed on a case by case basis and is often up to £4000 off tuition fees per year.
