A good undergraduate degree in any dicipline. Students who do not possess formal qualifications but who can demonstrate that they have gained appropriate knowledge and skills equivalent to degree standard and that they will benefit from and contribute to the programme, may be accepted. Life after CAT for Robert Mcpherson
A new wind turbine has been installed by the MoD at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School. It’s the first grid connected wind turbine to be installed on land directly owned by the MoD.
CAT graduate Robert Macpherson who completed an MSc in Renewable Energy and the Built Environment (now retitles MSc Sustainable Energy Provision and Demand Management), managed the project. ‘The REBE course provided me with the theoretical and practical knowledge required in wind energy design, planning and application. I was able to utilise the learning's from the course directly into a real project situation. Right from providing the business case, the initial site identification, survey through project planning and delivery - the REBE course, in particular the ‘wind energy’ module – armed me with up to date information that I required to make it happen.’
In 2008 the MoD wind turbine project began with a site survey to identify a suitable location. Following Robert’s analysis he gained further support from e-on sustainable energy who carried out a more detailed site appraisal, the Army HQ (Land Forces) who funded the project and an installations grant from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme.
The project heralds a real achievement, it will not only provide the school with a long-term sustainable electricity supply, but also provide the children with a valuable opportunity to learn about carbon reduction technologies and renewable energy.
Through education CAT is dedicated to inspiring a workforce for a zero carbon future. In June they were presented with the Ashden Award for their training in sustainable technologies.
