Delivery and Assessment

There are no written examinations for our Master’s degrees, instead assessment is achieved through work based post module assignments and a work based dissertation.

We believe that applying the ideas, tools and techniques learned on the programme directly into your work environment is the best way of embedding learning in a manner that is meaningful to both you and your employer.

To be awarded your Master’s degree you must complete ten modules, two supporting events (Induction, Research Methodologies) and your dissertation. This typically takes three years on a part time basis.

Each module runs over four and a half days and requires approximately 100 hours of study time including lectures, seminars, independent study and a post module assignment. Modules are fully residential with accommodation and meals provided one of the conference centres at the University of Warwick.

Dissertations are supervised by a WMG tutor and a supervisor from your company and make up 50% of the programme.

Phil Simon

2499.jpg After completing my Apprenticeship, ONC and HNC, I went on to work in a variety of Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering and Production Management roles. From there I spent 12 years in various Logistics roles focusing on Sales & Operational Planning. For the last 2 years I have been Operations Director for BAE Systems Munitions Business.

I chose an MSc as I believed it offered both me and my company the right balance of focus between General Business and more specific Logistics/Supply Chain content. I assessed WMG against a number of other Universities but felt that on balance WMG offered the right mix of syllabus, industry focus, learning methods and opportunity for networking. BAE Systems also has a long term relationship with WMG that has always shown a good level of success.

My time at WMG was a great experience. Highlights would be the opportunity to network, the lecturers and guest speakers with many years experience in industry, and the learning environment. As I had attended a number of other seminars at Warwick, I knew what to expect.

Whilst studying for my MSc I have been promoted from Supply Chain Manager to Operations Director. I’m sure being committed to this programme and the desire to develop has helped me achieve this promotion. During my previous role I used some of the programme content to help me scope and design a new warehouse facility – this involved some engagement with one of the guest speakers to help support this work.

If you’re thinking about doing an MSc, get your family’s buy-in and do it: there will never to a good time, and you will always have reasons why you can’t. It’s been a great experience for me that I would absolutely recommend. Just plan your time well and it’s achievable.
