This new programme is an NHS funded training programme and reflects the values of the NHS constitution. The programme will offer Psychology graduates the opportunity to prepare for practice as a speech and language therapist and to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Speech and Language Therapists are concerned with the management of disorders of language, speech, fluency, voice, communication and swallowing in children and adults. This programme will focus in particular on creating research-active graduates who will contribute to evidence-based practice within the profession. To complete the application process, you need to be able to reflect on the work of a speech and language therapist and have knowledge of communication difficulties. This information can be gained from observation of a speech and language therapy session (live or video) or from personal experience. Considerable weight is given to relevant work or voluntary experience with one or more potential client groups. You will also be expected to be able to express yourself competently in spoken and written English, have strong interpersonal skills, and be at least 18 years of age at the time of commencement of the course.
