Course Description

For graduates from unrelated disciplines, this fast-track course allows you to qualify as a chartered surveyor. Your studies have a hands-on focus, responding to real professional briefs and working with other students. Suitable for UK and overseas students, the course’s reputation means many international surveying firms recruit students for roles spanning the globe.

This is a fast track conversion course for graduates from unrelated disciplines who want to become chartered surveyors. The course is also suitable if you are a professional working in a property or surveying role and want to improve your skills and career prospects in commercial property and the real estate profession.

Real estate operates in a dynamic and complex environment and draws on a diverse range of skills. This course gives you the technical, commercial and personal skills to prepare you for a successful career as a chartered surveyor.

This course is suitable for both UK and international students. Many international surveying firms recruit our graduates who pursue careers globally. It has been designed to ensure that you are well equipped to progress your career irrespective of where in the world your career may lead you.

The course includes practical, client-focused property projects. These involve you completing technical and professional tasks and applying creative solutions that draw on your developing knowledge. You study: property law, economics, planning, land development, construction, investment and finance, valuation, corporate real estate and portfolio management.

You benefit from a range of teaching, learning and assessment techniques. Intensive study weeks allow you to work on complex, professional briefs with an emphasis on the latest thinking from the real estate sector. One of the modules is an international project which currently takes place in Shanghai with assistance from international surveying firms.

Teaching takes place in a newly refurbished, dedicated building at our City Campus. The course is also fully supported by online resources. You work alongside students studying related subjects by participating in an interdisciplinary development project. This increases your understanding of their roles and responsibilities, how your role as a real estate surveyor interacts with those roles and develops the skills and knowledge essential to an effective professional practitioner.

You can also benefit from our interactive netcommunity especially formed to support current and past real estate students to network with each other. We welcome the continuing involvement of our graduates with this course, from participation at employers' fairs through to advising students during integrated projects.

Entry Requirements

Minimum 2:2 degree in any discipline or equivalent professional qualification. Full time students are encouraged to obtain a period of pre-course professional work experience before joining. Part time students should be employed in general practice surveying or have substantial contact with a property-related firm. If English is not your first language you typically need an IELTS 6.0 score with a minimum of 5.5 in all other skills or equivalent. If English language skill is below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.
