MSc Media and Arts Technology by Research

Course Description

This new programme aims to produce postgraduates with excellent technical and creative skills, who have a unique vision of how digital technology transforms creative, technical and social possibilities. You will receive training in the full research cycle including identifying a problem, choosing suitable methods to address it (eg qualitative, experimental, practice-based) and communication of results. You will develop a critical appreciation of the technical and creative state-of-the art in contemporary applications of digital media. In addition you will learn key technical skills that will enable you to produce new applications of your own. You will then apply this learning to a six-month advanced placement project with one of our partner organisations leading to a thesis (see http://www.mat.qmul.ac.uk for a full list of our partners).

QMUL International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards - 20+ Awards

In recognition of the important investment that overseas postgraduate students are making in their education, Queen Mary is pleased to offer International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards for 2017 entry. These awards are for the value of £5,000 and are designed to reward academic achievement and help attract the brightest and best postgraduate students from overseas.International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards will be deducted directly from tuition fees payable to the College. They apply to all postgraduate taught courses offered by the following Schools:- School of Biological and Chemical Sciences
- School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science
- School of Engineering and Materials Science
- School of Physics and Astronomy
- School of Mathematical Sciences (MSc Network Science only)If you are awarded the £5,000 scholarship it will be deducted directly from tuition fees payable to the College. You must be able to finance the remainder of your tuition fees and living expenses.Students who take an industrial placement year as part of a two year MSc will not receive a scholarship during this year in industry.

Value of Scholarship(s)



- You must have achieved a UK First Class Bachelor’s degree or an overseas equivalent.
- You must be eligible to pay overseas tuition fees.
- This scheme is available only to students who apply for and enrol in an eligible course in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in the 2017/18 academic year.
- You must not be in receipt of any other College scholarship or full-fee scholarship from any other source, eg Chevening.

Application Procedure

There is no need to complete a separate application form to be considered for an International Science and Engineering Excellence Award. Students will be considered for an award on the basis of the information they provide in their online application to Queen Mary. Successful candidates will be informed of their award via email notification from the Science and Engineering Faculty Office.

QMUL HESPAL Scholarships - Single Award

HESPAL aims to help create the next generation of senior academics who can maintain international quality standards at Palestinian universities and to develop renewed, sustainable links between Palestinian and UK universities.The Scheme will upgrade junior academic staff in Palestinian universities through a Masters Scholarship programme.Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has one HESPAL scholarship available across all our masters degrees, which covers tuition fees, pre-departure briefing from the British Council, arrival allowances, thesis allowances, and a monthly allowance to cover living expenses. The scholarship does not cover the costs for accompanying family, visa fees, IELTS cost, and Airfare ticket to from the UK.The scholarship is limited to a period of up to 12 months and cannot be extended beyond 12 months.The priority areas of study for Palestinian universities are likely to include (but are not limited to): Business, Economics and Finance; Educational Management; Political Sciences and International Relations; Human Rights and Governance; Agriculture; Engineering; Law; Management; Environmental Studies; Water Management; Nursing; TSOL; Human Resources; Economics; Literature; Linguistics; IT; Science programs; Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Infrastructure; Clean Energy and Conservation Strategies; MA Energy Management; Energy Conservation; Sustainable Energy; ICT; Nanotechnologies and Energy; Educational Technology; Special Educational Needs.

Value of Scholarship(s)



- Applicant must be a resident citizen of Palestinian Territories.
- Applicant must be currently employed by the Palestinian university which nominates her/him, which must be one of the participating Palestinian universities.
- Applicant will have a Masters degree from a Palestinian university with a minimum grade of very good (and equivalent to at least a 3.0 Bachelor’s Degree from UK).
- Applicant must sign a written undertaking to return to Palestinian university within a time frame agreed with their university, normally one year.
- Applicant must have IELTS certification appropriate for course and university (normally at least 6.5, sometimes higher).

Entry Requirements

We seek outstanding applications from students with proven technical and creative abilities who wish to develop their skills and take advantage of the unique opportunities offered by the Media and Arts Technology Programme. You will need to have a minimum of an upper-second class degree or equivalent in any science, engineering or design oriented discipline and evidence of programming or mathematical ability.For international students we require English language qualifications IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 92 (internet based).
