As a result, the effective use and development of human capital is a strategic decision that companies can no longer ignore. Management of Learning challenges you to think about learning in a (global) business environment and to find effective, potentially far-reaching solutions. It is a multi-disciplinary programme, which combines elements from economics, business, human resource management and learning sciences.
Expert teaching staff Our expert teaching staff is supported by carefully selected guest lecturers from international companies, such as DSM, Philips and ABN AMRO. In the second semester, you will analyse and propose solutions to a real human resource development (HRD) problem from one of these companies. The opportunity to put your skills into practice and the diversity of your fellow students is excellent preparation for the international environment of a large organisation.
The master's programme in Management of Learning is a 1-year, full-time programme taught entirely in English. Graduates will receive a master's in Management of Learning.
Management of Learning Day Once a year – usually in April – the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) organises a MSc Management of Learning Day, aimed at increasing people's awareness of its MSc Management of Learning master’s programme. Through this event we hope to attract new master students and facilitate the exchange of ideas between current, future, and alumni students. In addition, in the course of this day relations between companies in the field of HRD and the Department of Educational Research and Development at SBE will develop and foster.
This multi-disciplinary programme introduces you to the key concepts of learning and development in the workplace and the strategic sourcing and use of human capital. Combining elements from economics, business, human resource management and learning sciences, Management of Learning will provide you with a solid understanding of the human resource and knowledge challenges facing today’s businesses and require you to find innovative and effective solutions.
What will you learn? Management of Learning will challenge you on a theoretical and practical level. Drawing on a range of disciplines, this programme will give you an understanding of how knowledge and skills can be effectively used and developed on an individual, group and organisational level. You will consider learning from a self-development as well as a business point of view, by analysing labour markets and the wider economy, skills shortages and organisational change.
At the end of the programme, you will be able to:
• understand changing labour markets and their effects on organisations • analyse human resource development and management issues • think strategically and offer effective solutions to human resource problems • apply your theoretical and quantitative knowledge to real workplace issues • participate in discussions on a managerial level
A master’s degree in Management of Learning is an excellent way to start your international or managerial career. This is because you will have an understanding both of how organisations work and of learning and development issues. You will graduate with the analytical, quantitative and practical skills to develop and implement strategies for the effective use of human capital within an organisation. You will also be in a position to contribute to decision-making and policy discussions at a senior level. This programme will prepare you for a role in the human resources departments of large or multinational organisations but is equally suitable if you are thinking of going into consultancy or training.
