MSc Management of Information Systems & Digital Innovation

Interested in a career in management or IT consultancy? 

You will develop your management and consulting skills for a professional career in which you help businesses to thrive in the digital age. This course is about how to better manage, strategise, and use digital technology for business purposes. Our pathway options make it possible to specialise in IT consultancy or programming/analytics.

We have close relationships with many IT and consulting organisations including EY, Barclays, PA Consulting, Fetch.ai, Google, and Deloitte. All these firms value the WBS focus on developing managers with a creative mindset to integrated IT and digital innovations in business. For several years Deloitte has run an entire module, during which students get insights into the challenges and approaches to client work. 

Course Details

Study six compulsory modules before specialising with a selection of options over the duration of this one year course. Gain an excellent foundation in management theory and practical use of information systems, and learn to manage digital innovation to achieve business value.

Hands-on experience with industry experts 

We use real-life case studies and practitioner input at every opportunity and across all our compulsory and optional modules.


Assessment is a mix of individual assignments, group work, exams and tests. Your dissertation or Business in Practice module brings all your learning together.

Choice of dissertation or Business in Practice:


If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to information systems and digital innovation, the 8,000 word dissertation will enable you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained. You will be supervised and supported throughout and will usually submit your dissertation in early September.

  • Digital innovation in the sharing economy
  • A maturity model for enterprise social media
  • Big data and business intelligence in fintech companies

In total you will study six compulsory modules, two optional pathway modules, and complete a dissertation and a Research Methods module. 

Business in Practice route

If you would like to develop further applied skills and specialist knowledge to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with our applied Business in Practice module. You will develop deep functional and industry expertise with practical insights from our faculty and our CareersPlus & Corporate Relations team.

In total you will study six compulsory modules, two optional pathway modules, two open optional modules, and also complete the Business in Practice capstone module.
