The MSc Management and Strategy is a cutting-edge programme in managerial economics, designed to develop your analytical and critical skills in the core strategic issues facing managers and organisations in today’s fast-moving global business world. The programme will give you a fundamental understanding of incentives and governance, organisational design, individual and group decision-making, and strategy in competition and markets.
With a strong focus on economic business analysis, you will learn to rigorously examine managerial challenges using economic techniques, and to recommend your own innovative, intelligent solutions.
You will also develop a critical understanding of the wider socio-economic environment in which businesses across the globe operate, giving real world relevance to your managerial skills, and providing the training you will need to deal with unknown future challenges in the global economy across your lifetime career.
The programme links critical analysis with practice, by combining the analytical rigour of an economics degree with real-world, contemporary case studies used in MBAs. Throughout the programme you will be challenged to understand and apply cutting-edge managerial and economic theory to examples from the real world.
The MSc Management and Strategy will provide you with a route to transition into a new area in your career. As a conversion programme for students with no (or limited) background in managerial economics, we will provide you with an excellent foundation in general management and strategy with an economics focus, enabling you to enter a variety of careers including banking, consulting, multinational companies and the public sector. Previous graduates of this programme have had extremely successful careers and have found their time at LSE to be an invaluable basis for this.
After working with Hewitt Associates (an HR Consultancy), I wanted to pursue a degree which would not only provide sound and fundamental knowledge of management but also give international exposure. The diversity of students and the case study based teaching attracted me the most.
I have had many interesting and diverse opportunities whilst studying at LSE such as being able to give a presentation to the UK Managing Director of Deutsche Bank. Whilst studying the MSc in Management and Strategy we completed case studies on organisations such as Akzo Nobel, American Airlines, Tesco and BMW and were advised by the strategy directors and other top management from these companies.
The programme consisted of informative lectures and seminars; lectures provided an academic base, whilst seminars focused mainly on applying this knowledge to a real world case study. We always worked in teams which gave me an opportunity to interact and learn from my peers.
The societies at LSE are very pro-active. I was the vice president of Spice-India society and interacted with some of the top business leaders and politicians from India (eg Mukesh Ambani, Shashi Tharoor). I also played a cricket match as the captain of the Indian team at Lords. I don't think I would have been able to do any of this had I not come to LSE. In this one year, I learned the most and experienced one of the best years of my life.
