Student Profile

Robert Weeks

What attracted you to Kent?

I currently work for a Japanese bank in London, but have always wanted to study for a Master's degree. Kent is an established and well-regarded university, so I knew the quality of education would be high.

What have you particularly enjoyed?

I feel that I am on a more level playing field with the lecturers and tutors, and that's been great because I haven't been scared to ask questions. The mix of different nationalities of students on the course means you get the chance to look at an issue from all sides. Having the opportunity to specialise in international business has been fantastic, too, as it fits well with my professional background.

How do you think your studies will help you in your career?

I'm looking forward to taking everything I've learned from the course and applying it to my current job. I can see already how procedures at work can be improved and how I can exploit new angles to elevate the position of my department within the bank. A Master's qualification also provides an extra tick in the box on my CV, which I will have for life now. This further qualification will place me ahead of the game and increase my future career prospects.

Kent Business School is pleased to offer a range of hardship bursaries to UK and International postgraduate taught students who require financial support in order to undertake and complete their master's studies.

KBS Bursaries are awarded on the grounds of financial hardship and in order for us to offer such a bursary there needs to be reference to this within the application essay. For example, some of our students are parents (especially single parents) or mature students with heavy financial commitments. Some students may be registered with a disability and further funding will contribute towards the costs of studying and/or living, whereas others may be from a low-income family and find they need to raise funds themselves. Some may find that even with working part-time (which can put a strain on studies) they simply cannot raise the funds needed.

Value of Scholarship(s)

Awards up to £3,000

Eligibility

To be eligible candidates must:

- Be self-funded
- Submit a maximum 750 word supporting statement describing your current financial circumstance, detailing why you require the extra funding and should be considered for a hardship bursary.
