The degrees cover many different subjects and develop a wide range of transferable skills and provide entry to a range of rewarding careers.

This course has two start dates - January or September

Why study MSc International Business at Dundee?

We live in a world where economic activity is global in scale. National boundaries now matter very little to decisions about where goods are made and services provided: your PC might be made in Taiwan; when you contact a call centre the person answering your call might be living in India; and when you come to the University of Dundee you will meet staff and students from all over the world.

By studying MSc International Business you will understand how this has come about, and what it means for today's business world. You will be fully equipped to develop your own career in this new and challenging work environment.

What's great about MSc International Business at Dundee?

We provide a fresh introduction to International Business which is suitable both for those that have studied economics, business management or accountancy before and for those that are new to the subject.

Dundee offers a flexible master's programme in international business enabling you to choose a combination of subjects that best suits your aptitudes and aspirations. You can choose to take a number of different pathways, namely:

MSc International Business
MSc International Business and Finance
MSc International Business, Accounting and Finance
MSc International Business and Management
MSc International Business and Marketing
MSc International Business and Human Resource Management
MSc International Business, Marketing and Human Resource Management

A feature of the programme is the Distinguished Visitor and Enterprise Gym Lecture Series. Distinguished practitioners in the field are invited to the University to hold seminars highlighting critical aspects of Business Finance and Marketing. It offers students a unique opportunity to meet with business leaders.

How you will be taught

The degrees are taught full-time for a period of twelve months, starting in September and January each year. Modules are taught using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, workshops, groupwork and student presentations.

What you will study

The common modules of all pathways are:

Foundation Economics and Statistics for Business
Applied Business Statistics
Internationalisation Strategies
Strategic Decisions for Business
International Business Finance
International Business Project

You will meet your advisor at the start of the course, to select your pathway, which in turn dictates the rest of your modules, as shown on our website http://www.dundee.ac.uk/postgraduate/courses/international_business_msc.htm.

How you will be assessed

All modules are assessed by coursework and final examination. Coursework may account for as much as 40-50% of the overall degree.

Our graduates work in small firms, in large multinational firms with offices throughout the world, in the public sector or in international and charitable organisations. There is an enormous variety of work that includes meeting a wide cross-section of different people, giving advice, and providing management and technical services.

"The courses are disciplined and competitive. Professors are very helpful and the library is the best place to study/hang out/discuss and pretty much do anything and everything. But the seller is the level of diversity in the class, not just in terms of nationality but also in terms of educational background, age, experience, geographical and lingual background. When you look at things from one perspective and when you look at them from many different perspectives, you learn an extraordinary amount."

Saira Zahid, graduated in 2011, and now works as Associate Manager in the Consumer Market Knowledge Department at Procter & Gamble.

(Student Profile)

James Murray

1348.jpg I had previously started up a business in Dundee, but felt it prudent to formalise the skills I had learnt while being self-employed. An MSc at Dundee was cost-effective, and its School of Business is respected around the world.

The international student mix really helps with your communication skills. The course itself was interesting and challenging.

I excelled in International Business Strategy because you can see that business has not changed one tiny bit over possibly hundreds of years. There's still supply and demand, but the way you meet people's needs, together with the increased competition has forced economists to develop strategy models which assist in both marketing and business development. I apply those models to my work today. Meeting so many different people from all over the world has invigorated and informed my thinking.

While at University I also worked for the Enterprise Gym, which promotes business enterprise and entrepreneurialism. I also mentored the Dundee Erasmus European Exchange Network, and managed to improve my shooting enough in 9 months to get into the Men's 1st team in the Dundee Clay Shooting Club!
