Ever wondered how is knowledge diffused in the economy? How do different types of firms organise their innovation activities? or what role does knowledge play for economic development? Then Msc Innovation, Knowledge, and Economic Dynamics (MIKE-E) might be what you are looking for. The 2-year programme trains economists in the understanding of knowledge-based economic dynamics though the innovative problem-based learning approach.
In national as well as in international companies, organisations, and public institutions there is an increasing demand for academically trained employees and managers, who can pursue new opportunities, create innovation and contribute to a dynamic development of firms in changing environments.
The MIKE-E programme uses the problem-based-learning (PBL) model of learning, combining frontal lectures with projects where students are given much flexibility to follow their interests and deepen their insight in specific topics. This learning style is a trademark of Aalborg University, and is increasingly gaining adepts in other universities throughout the world. The programme aims at educating proactive team-players to pursue their interest in collaboration with others students.
A close collaboration between MIKE-E and its twin programme, MIKE-B, gives a unique opportunity to combine macro- and micro perspectives, and gives students new possibilities to design an individual study program. Prominent scholars in innovation studies and entrepreneurship supervise and teach in both progammes, and workshops and seminars by renown visiting scholars take place regularly throughout the semester.
The key objective of this MSc programme in Innovation, Knowledge and Economic dynamics (MIKE-E) is to train economists in the understanding of knowledge-based economic dynamics. The programme emphasises the capability to make profound and reflective analyses and the capability to define and implement sustainable strategies in a world characterised by rapid change and uncertainty.
The programme gives students the opportunity to learn how to use specific theories, models, methods, and tools that can help to understand the interaction between knowledge, innovation and the economy in a context characterised by globalisation, rapid change and uncertainty.

With a Master degree in Innovation, Knowledge and Economic Dynamics you will get a specific and profound knowledge about how knowledge is produced, diffused and used. You will have obtained a specific capability to analyse dynamic processes and to find relevant solutions to essential problems.

The MIKE-E programme prepares you to undertake a career in:
-The private sector (larger companies, banks and financial institutions, or consultancies) -Regulatory bodies at the local, regional, national, and international level (municipalities, regional bodies, Ministries of Trade, Industry, Science and Technology, etc.) -National or international organisations (for instance labour market organisations, industrial associations, European Commission, OECD, the World Bank) -National or international research institutions and universities (as a Ph.d.-student or research fellow)
Content and Structure
MIKE-E is an international programme for Danish and international students. The teaching language is English.
The programme consists of four terms (semesters). The third term (9th semester) offers an opportunity for traineeship or study abroad as well as courses within the MIKE-E programme.
Concurrently with the MIKE-E programme runs a 'twin programme' within Business Economics (cand.merc.). The title of the business economics programme is 'MSc in Innovation, Knowledge and Entrepreneurial Dynamics' (MIKE-B). Parts of the activities (courses, seminars, project work) are organised as joint activities between the two master programmes, parts of the activities (especially courses in tools and methods) are organised as separate activities within each programme.
The programme consists of courses, seminars and project work. The project work gives a good opportunity to reflect and use the theories, methods and tools presented in the courses and seminars.
