Student Profile

Yixuan Zhu

I am glad that I made this decision and chose to study at the Information School at the University of Sheffield. I graduated from Sheffield more than 2 years ago and I continue applying the knowledge that I learned in the degree at workplace now.

My first job after I graduated was as a crash test engineer at the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, Chongqin. While I was there, our team was working on a project for an emergency call system which coincided with the case study used in the Information Systems Project Management module.

The case study of the emergency call system in the UK provided me with background knowledge and help me to understand complexities of the problem and identify the issues that need to be considered when developing our own system. My team and I were able to quickly grasp the problems and completed the project quickly.

I am now working as a product manager for voice systems at Changan Software. Once again, some of the modules that I took in the Information School helped me adapt to my new job more quickly.

As a product manager, it is very important to know what is going on in the industry; the Research into Social Media module helped me to find accurate information in a massive pool of information faster. Since I am responsible for software development, I found that JAVA programming and Database Design modules have equipped me with the skills and knowledge to better communicate with technical developers and control the entire project process.
