FindAMasters summary

The MSc in Hydrology and Water Resources Management is a comprehensive programme that explores the distribution and quality of water, as well as the impact of human activities on water resources. This multidisciplinary course covers physical and life sciences, mathematical sciences, and systems analysis. With a strong focus on practical design considerations, the programme offers a balanced mix of theoretical background and hands-on experience. Key modules include hydrology, groundwater flow and quality modelling, rainfall-runoff modelling, and water resources management. To be eligible, a 2.1 degree in civil engineering, natural sciences, or a numerate discipline is required, along with a strong foundation in mathematics.

About the course

Hydrology is concerned with assessment of the natural distribution of water in time and space, and with evaluating the impact of manmade changes on the distribution and quality of this water.

Applied hydrology has traditionally been concerned with floods and water resources. However, hydrologists are increasingly focusing on the problems of pollutant transport in surface water, soils and groundwaters, and wider issues such as the effects of land use and climate change.

Hydrology is strongly multidisciplinary, and this course includes a basic treatment of relevant physical and life sciences, mathematical sciences, and systems analysis.
