Human Geography is a research field which focuses on studying the spatial behaviour of people, firms and organisations. Or, to put it simply, it is a study that observes the relationship between human activities and their spatial environment. Because it is an integrative discipline, Human Geography serves as an excellent platform for integrating knowledge from various related disciplines, such as Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration and Development Studies.
The Human Geography Master's programme at Radboud University offers five specialisations and the option to develop your own specialisation:
- Conflicts, Territories and Identities

I have always been determined to fulfill my dreams and coming to Nijmegen was definitely one of them. After my bachelor studies in Riga Stradins University I was certain that I would continue my studies abroad. Radboud University in Nijmegen matched my wishes perfectly – it is a high-level university with diverse fields of study, one of the best in Netherlands and known as very welcoming for international students. Another important factor to choose the Netherlands as my destination was the fact that a Master’s degree can be gained in only one year and the costs are relatively low.
When I started my application process I was pleasantly surprised by the quick responses and adjustments made by staff of the university. Not only they made sure that the university is glad to receive me as a student, but also they did all the additional paperwork, which was necessary for my home country’s institutions. That made the application process easier and made a good first impression of the university itself.
Being here only confirmed my expectations. I am studying the Master’s in Human Geography with the specialisation in Conflicts, Territories and Identities, and I am very satisfied with the content of studies. Our lectures are interactive and professors enjoy discussions with students, letting them become a part of the lecture and express their opinion in all matters. Not only our academic staff takes care of diverse study content, but we also have the chance to meet guest lecturers from institutions all over the world. Furthermore, our professors not only provide us with the theoretical basis but have included a trip to an actual conflict spot as a part of our studies to gain some practical experience as well.
The time in Nijmegen is definitely one of the best experiences in my life. The city and the university have received me in a very friendly way, I have met a lot of people which I can already call my friends and I am sure that being part of this university will offer many great perspectives in my future.
