MSc Humanitarian Action

Course Description

The MHA is an inter-university, multidisciplinary postgraduate programme that provides high quality academic education and professional competencies for personnel working or intending to work in humanitarian action. As well as exploring and critically analysing the key humanitarian concepts and practices, it seeks to develop a skilled pool of humanitarian actors. The development of three core competencies is a key learning objective: Systemic competencies, including global comprehension of complex emergencies, and advanced analytical skills; Practical competencies, including assessment, planning, management and organisation skills, and familiarity with relief techniques; Personal competencies such as communication skills, team work, self reliance and intercultural sensitivity.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have completed a good level first cycle degree in a discipline of relevance to humanitarian action (at least second class honours). English Language qualification applicable if English was not the language of instruction for the candidates’ first degree.
