Course content

In the one-year Master's degree programme in Human Resource Management (HRM) you learn to accomplish organizational goals by matching tasks, roles and positions with a company's strategy and environment. Also, you learn about traditional fields of personnel management such as recruitment, selection and training.

As a student of HRM you will explore HRM policies and practices. You learn to anticipate changes which affect the management of work and people within an organization. These can be internal and external changes. Therefore topics such as technological development, internationalization of business and changing legislations are of interest as well. Also, you learn to function within different management teams.

In this programme you take specific HRM courses like Work Design and Team Processes. In addition, you take managerial courses and courses on social topics such as social security and labour conditions. You complete the programme by writing a thesis.

Why in Groningen?

You learn to apply theory to the realworld practice of HRM and you learn to base HRM on the best available scientific evidence. Besides, HRM is an internationally accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

Job perspectives

After completing this programme you can work as a human resource manager in business and at government institutions. Positions in personnel management, training coordination, recruitment and selection or working conditions management will suit you. It is possible to pursue an academic career as well. Because all our programmes are EQUIS and AACSB accredited, a standard which only one percent of universities reach worldwide, your degree will be highly valued on the labour market.

Linking education to research and career preparation

Our education is strongly rooted in business practice and society. Also right from the start of your degree programme attention is paid to academic research and preprofessional development. Since an analytical and critical mind and problem-solving capabilities are important qualities in any career our students aspire.

In collaboration with external partners we conduct research projects on e.g banking, local government, customer insights, leadership, energy, healthy ageing and lean operations.
