Student Profile(s)
Callum Courtney
Before commencing the MSc Human Resource Management I was working full-time as a Credit Referrals Manager for a telecommunications company here in Glasgow. I had a very good think about what I wanted for my future career and I considered the aspects of my current job that I enjoyed. The people aspect for me really stood out and I made the decision to study human resources. It has been a fantastic decision and it feels great to know I have found my vocation.
My experience at Strathclyde has been phenomenal. I have loved every minute of the experience. The lecturers at Strathclyde Business School are experts in their field and this really comes across in the teaching. There is nothing they do not know about their subject and beyond. The course content is multidisciplinary and as you progress through the MSc you start to see how it all clicks together and build a full picture. I have developed my academic and analytical skills by being on the MSc.
I would especially recommend Strathclyde Business School for the quality of the teaching. My learning experience has been fantastic. This is due to the lecturers employed at the school. They are industry experts in their field, and this really enhances the learning experience at Strathclyde.
I was apprehensive about commencing my studies during the pandemic as I was concerned that I would not get the full learning experience. The way the University and the Business School have delivered online learning has been exceptional. I feel that the online learning environment has not negatively impacted my experience at all and in some ways have made it better. We still had opportunities to contribute to class discussion and ask our lecturers questions. The Department of Work, Employment & Organisation embraced pre-recorded mini lectures prior to our Zoom meeting, which really enhanced our learning and class discussions.
Not only has the MSc provided me with the formal qualifications required by employers, but it has also enabled me to network with industry through guest speakers. We have had guest speakers from the senior leadership team at the BBC and many others form the industry that we are seeking employment. This has been invaluable.
