MSc Environmental Conservation Management

Course Description

The world’s valued environments have long been threatened by anthropogenic changes and development pressures from industrial and commercial sources. Areas valued for their conservation importance and aesthetic value are often subjected to concentrated uses that include recreation and amenity, waste disposal, mineral extraction and the military.

There is a growing need for skilled professionals in the area of biodiversity conservation and environmental management. Increasingly, hese individuals need to possess skills in a wide range of areas, including biodiversity, survey techniques, environmental management and monitoring systems, geographical information systems (GIS), and an understanding of relevant ecological principles, legislation and regulatory frameworks.

It is becoming clear that the management of conservation environments demands a multidisciplinary approach that brings together the physical, chemical, biological, socio-economic, administrative and legislative aspects of land planning.

This award is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for the Environment and Resources Professional Group. This allows graduates to progress to Chartership following completion of the RICS assessment of professional competency.
