The MSc Economics is a specialist masters degree designed to provide you with rigorous training in theoretical and applied economics.

It is suitable for students who either intend to pursue doctoral studies or are planning a career as research economists in academia, the public sector, international institutions, economic consulting, the financial industry, think tanks, or other research centres.

Students build on their undergraduate or postgraduate training by completing three compulsory modules in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics both in the first and in the second term.

Students can also choose from a selection of option modules that cover a range of topics in applied economic research. Students also conduct original research to fulfil the substantial dissertation component of the degree.

This Economics masters degree will develop your economics expertise to the highest level.

Unique features of the MSc in Economics are:

  • Degree provides a solid grounding in modern economics.
  • Comprehensive two-semester sequences in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics that cover the essential models and tools used by research economists.
  • Training in relevant mathematical and statistical methods and how to conduct, assess, and supervise both theoretical and applied research in the field.
  • Possibility to continue to the MRes Economics programme upon successful completion of the MSc, which provides the option to go on to doctoral study in the School.
  • A large number of generous scholarships available for academically outstanding students
  • Students who take ECOM109 Competition Policy and Regulations are eligible to apply for one of the summer internships offered by Frontier Economics, who teach this module.
