Overview

There is an urgent need for solutions that help people live well with dementia: more than one million diagnoses are expected by 2025. Our course prepares you for careers in management and service commissioning of dementia care services, and to work with voluntary organisations in the field. The course could provide a platform for people wishing to work within other services which are not dementia-specific but where a need may arise due to the increasing prevalence.

Why choose this course?

Our course covers an overview of dementia, the impact on the person living with dementia, their carers and families and wider society. You will develop your understanding of the condition, along with the skills to create innovative service improvements.

You will also learn about the fundamentals of research and be supported to complete a small research project during a placement in a dementia care or service setting. Co-creation is a feature of our research and development, working with artists, designers and scientists to innovate for people with dementia and their carers.

As a student on this course you will automatically be part of the Dementia Care Centre (DCC). The DCC is the hub for dementia within UWL, supporting education, training packages and research.
