Course content

UEL has been offering postgraduate programmes in the area of civil engineering since 1964.

The general aim of the programme is to provide graduate civil engineers with the opportunity to develop and gain additional expertise to meet higher demands of our profession and help you fast-track your career. This programme will enhance your knowledge in different areas of civil engineering, such as structural, geotechnical and coastal engineering, hydraulics, transportation, design and construction management. It will also provide you with deep understanding and skills in research methods.

Moreover, our MSc programmes in civil and structural engineering have a wide professional recognition, as they are accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) of the Institutions of Civil, Structural, and Highways and Transportation Engineers. This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree (see http://www.jbm.org.uk for further information).

We also offer opportunities for those in work by providing part-time opportunities for study, and provide support to help balance work and study commitments.

Key Facts

Civil engineers with postgraduate qualifications find a wide range of career opportunities with consultancy, contactor and client organisations, as well as other related areas such as research and management.

Civil engineering at UEL was ranked 3rd in London (after UCL and Imperial College) and 4th amongst modern universities in the Guardian University Guide 2013's league table for civil engineering.
