Student Profile

Clare Broadhurst

I chose to complete this Masters degree because I wanted to develop my base knowledge in multiple different aspects of business and management. I felt this would be more beneficial for me in my future career prospects. I really enjoyed doing my undergraduate at Strathclyde, it felt right to continue my time here. Being a part of two different departments in the University was a great experience.

The variety of classes on offer as part of the MSc Business & Management is very different from many other courses. I believe it gives a well-rounded knowledge of business, all of which is very practical and easily adaptable to be used in future careers. I have developed my interpersonal skills throughout this course by being able to communicate with others better, whilst also developing my skills in leadership. The Professional Management Practice module really pushed me to think of what avenues I want my career to go in and how I could use this year whilst still at university to push myself out of my comfort zone and develop new skills.

As part of the course we worked alongside a Glasgow-based soft drinks company, Rapscallion Soda, to create a marketing plan. Off the back of this, I secured a job with them on a part-time basis, which has now transitioned into my full-time job as I work towards a management position with them in operations and logistics. On a daily basis, I am using the knowledge and skills that I developed through my Masters degree.

I would really recommend using the course to grow your professional network. It is very much a course with people from all over the world, so use this to your advantage. I would also recommend doing the larger 60-credit final project as it allows for a much more in-depth piece of work that can be useful for future career aspirations.

I have loved being a student at Strathclyde. The campus is so easily accessible with plenty of places to study from across the campus. All teaching staff have been wonderful and very knowledgeable. As I'm from Glasgow, it has been lovely to study in my own city and help show some of the international students around the city throughout the year. I do believe Glasgow is one of the best cities.
