Are you interested in what causes disease and how we can prevent it? And if disease is present, do you want to know how we can treat it? Then Biomedical Sciences could be just the programme for you
Exploring human health and disease The 21st century may well be called the century of molecular biology. Amid wide-scale investments in life sciences all over Europe, there is a growing demand for highly specialised professionals in a range of life science fields. Biomedical Sciences focuses on state of the art methodology and the skills that enable researchers to unravel the molecular mechanisms in health and disease. You explore the relationship between human beings and their environment from molecule, to gene, to cell and organ, to individual and to entire populations.
Why study Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University?
In the first semester, you will encounter many different diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Alzheimer, schizophrenia, cancer and cardiovascular disease to bring all students at the same level.

You participate in ongoing, cross-border research at Maastricht University and Hasselt University (Belgium), giving you hands-on experience and an international network.
You get the possibility to develop your own profile in the domain of Biomedical Sciences by choosing one of five specialisations offered by the faculty’s Research Institutes.
You may take part in an exchange programme in Paris or you can do a junior and/or senior internship abroad.
