The MRes in Media offers opportunities to applicants from a range of backgrounds.
You may be about to graduate and wish to develop higher level knowledge and research skills with a view to giving yourself a lead in the job market.
Your goal may be to undertake PhD research, for which the MRes in Media is ideal preparation.
You may be currently employed in the media and cultural industries and are keen to enhance your promotion prospects or enter a new field of work in the profession.
This course is an opportunity to fast-track your career or prepare the ground for further research at doctoral level.
During your time with us, you will learn high-level research and project development skills through three progressively-linked core research modules:
Research Methods and Methodologies Formulating Research Projects MRes Research Project.
You will leave us with an expert knowledge of research techniques and theories, and put these into practice in a field of your choice through an individually designed and organised major research project in your chosen field of media.
• Core Module: Research Methods and Methodologies • One elective module from the Semester 1 MA provision within the Media directorate • Core Module: Formulating Research Projects • One elective module from the Semester 2 MA provision within the Media directorate • The MRes Research Project
Graduates of this course will be in a position to take up posts in media companies which require employees to possess high level research and project design and delivery skills, accompanied by specialist high level subject knowledge of a chosen aspect of creative media. Graduates of the MRes in Media are also ideally placed to go on to further study through undertaking a PhD degree on either a part-time or a full-time basis.

A good honours degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant field. Those applicants not in possession of these entry requirements, but who have amassed practical experience in the cultural and creative sectors, will be considered for entry in line with the University’s APL procedure.
