Research degree supervision is available in a number of areas within the social sciences and humanities. These include leisure and sport history; leisure, lifestyle and wellbeing; leisure, sport and physical activity policy; and community regeneration.
With the construction of a health and wellbeing centre on the University campus, the school is particularly keen to receive proposals that explore the relationships between leisure, lifestyle and wellbeing.
The University’s Centre for Worktown Studies, working in close co-operation with Bolton Museum and Archive Service, provides a portal for the academic use of the Humphrey Spender ‘Worktown’ photographs taken for Mass Observation in the 1930s. In this context, we would be interested in applications that explore the potential of these images in enhancing our understanding of leisure practices and experiences in this period.
