From Archaeology & Anthropology to Environmental & Biological Sciences, Technology, Security, Design & Engineering, or Psychology, research within the Faculty of Science & Technology is world-leading.

A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is an opportunity to critically investigate and evaluate a specific topic in one of our specialisms with a research supervisor. It can also be a precursor to a PhD, giving you two years to delve into a subject that you are passionate about.

The faculty hosts four interdisciplinary research centres and one research institute: Ageing and Dementia Research CentreInterdisciplinary Neuroscience Research CentreCentre for Ecology, Environment and Sustainability and Institute for Studies in Landscape and Human Evolution.

Entry Requirements

We would normally expect you to have an Honours degree at Upper Second Class (2:1) and/or an appropriate Master's degree.

Some supervisors may ask you for additional entry requirements such as relevant work experience, evidence of written work, or previous study of a particular subject.

If English is not your first language, you will need IELTS (Academic) 6.5 with minimum 5.5 in each component or equivalent.
