About the course
The course is for those passionate about 20th century and contemporary literature who would like the option to study creative writing as well. The course provides an intensive introduction to twentieth century and contemporary literature with detailed examination of individual writers and texts. You will develop a detailed knowledge of themes and issues in modern and contemporary literature as well as valuable research skills. Through seminars, group work, literary and cultural theory exploration, you will gain a strong command of methodologies for understanding and analyzing texts and ideas. There is also the opportunity to choose whether you graduate with an MA in Modern Literature or an MA in Modern Literature and Creative Writing. A dissertation is required for both options which will act as an excellent grounding in research if thinking of continuing to doctoral level, while also providing evidence of a wide range of transferable skills for those wishing to pursue careers outside academia such English teaching (with PGCE or TEFL/TESOL), journalism, publishing, advertising , arts administration , PR , television , film industry , media-related jobs among many others .
Entry Requirements
2:1 degree in English literature or its equivalent. Where appropriate, you may be asked to submit an essay as part of our admissions process. We will contact you if this is the case.
