The courses available at Exeter enabled me to focus on pursuing a career in the mining industry. As a result of the extensive alumni and networking opportunities available with Exeter this became very attractive further down the line looking for a career in mining. I was set on moving over to Australia where I knew the industry had plenty of opportunities and a large CSM network. All alumni have been very informative whether it is career advice or helping settling down in a foreign country.
Throughout my masters at Exeter all lecturers have been engaging. The lecturers try and concentrate on industry topics and what’s ‘hot’ in the news at the minute; I really like that the content is tailored to what is current. We’ve been taught some great industry standard software packages including Datamine and the RocScience geotechnical analysis suite. Having previously worked in the industry I know engineers use these software and therefore it will be really useful going forward. The project management module was particularly interesting for me. You get to learn basic project management and leadership skills that will come of great use in your future career. It’s a great to learn what people use in the industry, how to run projects and manage data.
The Penryn Campus offers some great lecture theatres and study spaces. The library is fully equipped with all the resources necessary for the course. When completing the Masters programmes you gain access to the ‘Masters Suite’ where you can book out rooms to complete group work or study quietly individually. It is also equipped with computers with all software necessary for the course. It is quieter than the library as just for Masters students. The campus also has a range of coffee shops and bars on campus.
