Course content

This online course allows you to develop your professional skills in coaching and mentoring. It is designed for anyone in school or college who has experience of being mentored or coached as well as those who have experience of being mentors and coaches themselves. You will need to want to develop a deeper understanding of the area and be in a position to further inquire into your own or other’s practice.

The course aims:-

• to provide a course that promotes your learning through critical reflection on and research into your practice
• to impact positively on your practice as mentor/coach and consequently on the learning of your mentees and the students they
• to provide you with an enhanced understanding of the mentoring/coaching process in schools and colleges
• to develop your ability to critically evaluate research evidence on mentoring/coaching
• to develop your understanding of different research approaches to mentoring/coaching

Course Content

You will need to complete two 30-credit modules and associated assignments.

• The Nature and Practice of Mentoring and Coaching
• Planning Practice-Based inquiry

The duration of each module is 10-12 weeks.

Our online materials provide an interactive learning experience, and allow you to make decisions about which aspects of a module to work on when and at what pace. You will be encouraged to interact with other course participants, and the module units will involve group activities such as using blogs, wikis, and discussion boards. You will be in regular contact with tutors via email, chat, discussion boards and Skype.

The Mentoring and Coaching modules are part of the MA Education (flexible) and are designed so that you can choose to continue your studies to achieve a Masters Degree.
