Course content

The Master of Education in Educational Technology - Health Professions Applications prepares participants to deliver educational content and skills using new and developing instructional technologies. The target audience includes:

- Faculty in undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate health professions, including medicine, nursing, public health, pharmacy, dentistry, and the allied health professions.

- Undergraduate and graduate students in health professional programs who anticipate careers in education.

- Staff members in educational departments who want to enhance their understanding and skills of the new and developing technologies.

Course detail

Participants will not only learn new and emerging technologies, but also will experience them as students. Courses are a blend of online and in-class courses. Online courses include synchronous weekly webinars with sessions recorded for those unable to attend the “live” sessions. Using current and emerging technologies, participants learn innovative and progressive approaches and practice implementing them in a learning environment. Some of the technologies that are woven throughout the program include:

- Web conferencing
- Digital video creation
- Posting videos on YouTube
- Web page development
- Accessibility for online learning
- Simulation development and training
- Standardized patient education
- Peer learning with new technologies
- Using technology at the bedside


Classes are taught in a condensed 7-week format, and most are entirely online. Students use technologies such as Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing, Camtasia, Weebly, YouTube, and others while in the program. Here are some of the topics and theories taught in the classes.
