This new Masters programme provides the opportunity to advance professional practice in the context of a flexible programme of study. The programme is aimed at a wide variety of professionals who work in the post compulsory education sector, from those who have either recently qualified as teachers to those who are seeking to widen their knowledge and understanding for career development.
Course Content and Structure
This programme supports learners in advancing their own personal professional practice in education through a learner focussed, flexible and collaborative learning environment. The qualification offers both core and a range of option modules in order to create a more individually tailored masters qualification in education. The programme is delivered via a mix of blended and e-learning and encourages collaborative learning and networking opportunities and makes use of a high quality and well-resourced learning environment on the High Melton Campus.
The programme is undertaken over two years on a part time basis with Core and Option Modules completed across both years. The range of modules on the programme has been designed to be current and relevant for the needs of professionals seeking to advance their different practices in a variety of education contexts. The suite of core modules include a focus upon Inclusion, Advances in E- Learning, Digital Scholarship and Innovation, Action Research, Educational Enquiry and Reflective Practice and a final Independent Research- based Project submitted at the end of the programme. The suite of Option Modules will offer individual choice in order to create a more learner focussed experience on the programme. The Option Models include a focus upon Mentoring for Professional Development, Subject Specialist Professional Development, Widening Leadership for Teaching and Learning, Sustaining the Reflective Practitioner in a Time of Change, and Managing Change through Philosophy, Policy and the Curriculum.
The programme adopts an innovative approach to learner assessment at Masters Level. This includes a variety of assessment strategies and types: presentations, collaborative assessment opportunities and group work, essays and seminar papers, research activities and individual project work.
As a result of their study and experience on the MEd Advancing Professional Practice successful students will be able to progress their academic learning by undertaking further study on EdD or PhD programmes via the University of Hull or other HE institutions.
The award of the MEd in Advanced Professional Practice will assist learners in a variety of career progression opportunities. Increasingly the Masters in Education is regarded as a benchmark qualification for teacher progression. The qualification will also aid moves to roles such as Head of Department, Curriculum Leadership or Subject Specialist Leadership, supporting learning roles as well as specific opportunities for furthering e- learning and the application of new and emerging technologies.
